College Grading Systems in the Philippines: Grade Equivalents by School

What each grade means at schools that publish their scale, read from each school's own handbook, manual, or registrar page. Percentages appear only where the school publishes them.

The main grading systems

  • 1.00 is best. UP, UST, PUP, UE, and Mapúa grade from 1.00, the highest grade, down to 3.00, the lowest passing grade, with 5.00 as a failing grade. The percentage behind each grade differs by school: a 1.00 is 96 to 100 at UST, 97 to 100 at PUP, and 98 to 100 at UE.
  • 4.0 is best, in numbers. DLSU grades from 4.0 down to 1.0 (Passed), with 0.0 as Failed, and averages them into a GPA.
  • Letter grades with quality points. Ateneo gives letters from A (4 points) to F (0) and averages the points into a QPI. FEU also uses letters from A (4.0) to F (0.0) and rounds a computed grade to the nearest letter by fixed ranges.
  • Percentages. SLU states its averages and honors cutoffs as percentages.

There is no official formula that converts a GWA on the 1.00 scale into a GPA on the 4.0 scale, or the other way around. Conversions are school-specific, so use only the table your own school publishes, and ask your registrar when another school or an employer needs an equivalent.

In a meritorious case, an INC or NFE noted in the remarks may be removed within one month of the release of final grades; otherwise it becomes permanent. D and NC count as 70 in the GWA.

Note: SLU's full percentage scale is in a separate grading manual we could not find, so only its marks are listed. The 2015 edition is the newest SLU handbook we found.

Schools we could not find a citable published scale for are left out until we find one. Our editorial policy explains how sources are chosen and how to send a correction.

On the 1.00 to 5.00 scale, the GWA calculator works out your weighted average from your grades and units. Then compare it with Dean's List requirements and Latin honors cutoffs for your school. MySched keeps the same grades next to your class schedule and works offline.
