GWA Calculator
Enter a grade and its units to see your GWA.
What average do you need for your target GWA?
Enter your GWA so far, the units behind it, the units you still have to take, and the GWA you are aiming for.
Fill in all four to see the average your remaining units need.
How GWA is computed
Multiply each final grade by the subject's units, add those products, then divide by the total units.
GWA = (grade₁ × units₁ + grade₂ × units₂ + …) ÷ (units₁ + units₂ + …)
For example, 1.25 in a 3-unit subject and 2.00 in a 1-unit subject give (3.75 + 2.00) ÷ 4 = 1.4375, which rounds to 1.44.
On the Philippine scale, 1.00 is the highest grade and 3.00 is usually the lowest passing grade. Subjects with 0 units, such as NSTP or PE at many schools, are left out, and so are marks like INC, W, and DRP. Schools differ on rounding and on which subjects count, so check your registrar's rules for the official figure.
Latin honors cutoffs
Each school sets its own cutoffs. These are common on the 1.00 to 5.00 scale, and they are the ones UP and UST use:
- Summa Cum Laude: 1.20 or better
- Magna Cum Laude: 1.45 or better
- Cum Laude: 1.75 or better
Some schools are stricter. PUP, for example, uses 1.15, 1.35, and 1.60. Most also require no failing grades and a minimum share of units taken at the school. Compare Latin honors requirements by school.
Questions about GWA
Does an INC or a dropped subject count in my GWA?
Not while it stays a mark. Type INC, W, or DRP as the grade and the calculator leaves that subject out. Most schools turn an INC into a failing grade if you do not complete it in time, so check your school's deadline.
What is the difference between GWA, GPA, and QPI?
Most Philippine colleges use a GWA on the 1.00 to 5.00 scale, where 1.00 is the highest. Some, such as FEU, Ateneo, and De La Salle, use a GPA or QPI on a 4.0 scale, where 4.0 is the highest. This calculator uses the 1.00 to 5.00 scale.
What GWA do I need for Latin honors?
It depends on your school. UP and UST use 1.20, 1.45, and 1.75 as the cutoffs for summa, magna, and cum laude, while PUP uses 1.15, 1.35, and 1.60. See Latin honors requirements by school.
Is the result official?
No. Schools differ on rounding and on which subjects count. Your registrar computes the official GWA on your grades and transcript.
