AI schedule reader
When the optional AI reader appears, what it sends, its limits, and the private fallbacks.
MySched normally reads schedule screenshots on your device with Apple's text recognition. An optional AI reader can make another attempt when a complex table is hard to understand. It is a fallback, not a requirement.
When it appears
The Fix with AI option appears on the review screen only when the server feature is available. It may be hidden temporarily during maintenance or when no AI provider is configured.
The AI reader works with or without a MySched account. Signed-in and guest uses have separate abuse limits.
What happens the first time
- Choose screenshots and let the on-device reader make a draft.
- On the review screen, choose the AI option.
- MySched explains that the selected screenshots will be sent to an AI provider.
- Nothing is sent until you tap Use AI.
- Review every class before saving.
That permission is remembered for later AI imports on the same installation. You can always choose Not now and continue with the on-device result or edit classes by hand.
What is sent
For one AI attempt, MySched may send:
- up to three selected schedule images, converted to compressed JPEGs;
- up to 12,000 characters of text recognized on your device;
- the school name you selected; and
- known course-code prefixes that help correct noisy text.
The images are resized before upload. MySched does not send your entire photo library, and using Apple's photo picker does not give the app blanket access to it.
Check the result
AI can misread days, times, rooms, or course codes. The review screen is the safety step. Fix or remove anything wrong before tapping Save schedule.
Privacy and limits
MySched sends the request securely through its schedule-reading service. The screenshots, recognized text, and parsing context are not saved in MySched's own database or file storage as part of this AI request. The AI provider's processing and retention terms may still apply.
Guest attempts use a random per-install identifier and network information for daily abuse limits. Those counters do not contain your schedule. Signed-in attempts can be limited per account.
See the Privacy Policy for the full current disclosure.
If AI is unavailable
- Wait a minute and try once more if the reader says it is busy.
- Import fewer images; the AI reader uses at most three even though the normal screenshot picker accepts up to five.
- Use a clearer crop with the full days and time columns visible.
- Keep the on-device draft and correct it on the review screen.
- Paste timetable text or add classes manually.
The on-device reader, pasted-text import, and manual entry do not depend on the AI service.
Next steps
- Import: every import method and the review screen.
- Permissions: photo-picker access and other system prompts.
- Troubleshooting: rejected images, empty results, and duplicates.
